The Allama Iqbal Open University was established in May 1974, with the main objectives of providing educational facilities to the masses and to those who cannot leave their homes and jobs. It has provided educational opportunities for the working people and has provided access to the females on their doorsteps. It has also done settler work in the field of Mass Education. The AIOU is the second Open University in the world and first in Asia Pakistan.
The AIOU, through its system of Distance Education, has provided educational opportunities to these housebound girls, women, and also those who are workers in different organizations and cannot leave their homes.
